Kyle and Nikita booked us to photograph their wedding over 2 years ago….and it feels like that time has flown by!!! So as their wedding was fast approaching we decided to spend an hour or so in Canns Woods for a nice relaxed pre-wedding shoot.
Pre-wedding shoots or engagement/e-shoots (whatever you want to call them!) are a great way to get to know the couple – you get to see how easy they are with one another, whether they are blinkers or squinters, whether they are into posing as well as other things that can help prepare you for the big day. And of course its beneficial for the bride and groom to be as well – although they’ll have an idea of what we as photographs are like, it gives them a chance to witness first hand how we pose them up, the type of equipment we have, how we engage with them, and they can voice their opinions on certain poses they like more than others for example before the big day.
When I do an e-shoot, I use a mixture of natural light and off camera flash (though its more natural than flash) a bit like what we do on a wedding. I love using off camera flash and some settings deserve it more others (and this is normally dependant on the weather) but I find I shoot much more quickly and efficiently using the natural light. My aim on say an e-shoot or wedding is to produce a range of varied images – using natural light lets me do this quickly and then from time to time quickly set up the off camera flash to create something more dynamic looking.
Here’s a couple of frames from the shoot with Nikita and Kyle, you’ll see a few images with flash and a few without…..But back to Nikita and Kyle – it was me who suggested shooting up in Cann’s Wood – I love this spot, the tree lines make the place really interesting and thankfully the sun was on our side today. These two are such a well suited couple, easy to get along with and a real joy to photograph, their big day is going to be a breeze….thanks for looking!
